DU admission drill made easy
NEW DELHI: Getting anxious about finding the way to your dream college and course at Delhi University (DU)? There is some good news for students applying for admission at DU this summer. The university has decided to hold several 'open days' at all its campuses to de-mystify the entire admission process for students and parents. The concept of open days had been floated last year as well, but the sessions had not been held in a comprehensive manner.

According to authorities, the sessions will include audio-visual presentations by third-year students on the university, its colleges, and the courses offered. Parents and students can clarify any doubts that they may have. Three such days are to be held at north campus, two at the south campus and one or two open sessions each at DU's east and west campuses. "Along with getting important information, open days will also give students and parents a feel of the campus. The interaction with senior students will perhaps also be a healthy initiation into the university for freshers," said dean, students' welfare, Hema Raghavan. Though the dates for these sessions are yet to be decided, they are likely to be scheduled after the new computerised forms are released. The forms are likely to be available after the first week of June. The interactive sessions may then subsequently be held during the third and fourth weeks of June. Officials said that final-year students will be short-listed from various colleges in order to be trained for conducting these open days. The audio-visual presentation will include information about hostel facilities at colleges. Instructions will also be given on how to fill up the new Intelligent Character Reader (ICR) admission forms. Some institutions like Gargi College have been holding similar interactive sessions at the college-level in the past as well. The college's open days are scheduled for May 14-15 this year. Holding open days seems to be the latest in the series of steps being take by DU to simplify college admissions. The university has also decided to computerise its entire admission process this year.
